About Piggies

Pigs are our most owner surrendered domestic animal. Why? There is a lot of misinformation about them.

For starters, a “Mini” Pig is a pig that grows to be 300lbs or less. Standard (non mini pigs) can grow up to 1000lbs! A lot of people have the misconception that their mini pig will not exceed 50lbs. While we’re on the topic - there is no such thing as a micro or tea-cup pig. These piglets being advertised as such are usually nutritionally deprived.

Secondly, if any breeder try’s to advertise a “Bottle Piglet”.. RUN. Bottle feeding most animals can lead to aspiration pneumonia, but most definitely in pigs and can cause death. The correct methods of feeding a piglet are by pan feeding, spoon, or syringe feeding. Not only that, you need to be asking Why? Why are these underage piglets not nursing with mama? A piglet, like all mammals, receive their immune system from mamas milk and most definitely her colostrum. Without mamas milk, they are highly susceptible of fatal diseases. They also learn behavioral traits from mama and the rest of their litter.

Here is an excellent website that goes into further detail that I highly suggest reading if you are looking to purchase an underage piglet. Mini Pig Info

Lets get into the positive information about pigs! They are actually CLEAN animals! They refuse to potty near where they sleep and eat, if given the choice. We have raised many pigs and in my experience, they have been easier to potty train than most dogs. Pigs are also more intelligent than most dogs. Pigs love toys! They love enrichment! They are very playful animals and even get the “zoomies”!

Pigs can not sweat. They get a bad reputation for being dirty animals because of how much they love wallowing in mud but they must do this to regulate their temperature and protect their skin from sunburn in the summer months. Pigs can tolerate the colder temperatures much easier than they can the heat.
